Founded in 1958, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences（BAAFS） is a directly affiliated institution of the Beijing Municipal Government. It primarily undertakes scientific research, achievement transformation, demonstration and promotion, as well as related technical services and training in the fields of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery. It has now developed into a comprehensive research institution with complete disciplines, advanced equipment, high academic standards, and strong innovation capabilities, offering strong guidance and support for the development of modern agriculture.

BAAFS has 15 research institutes , with 1,245 employees at present, including 652 professional technical personnel with senior titles and 612 personnel holding doctoral degrees. It boasts a group of high-level talents, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one national distinguished young scholar, chief scientists of the modern agricultural industry technology system, and Beijing scholars, etc.

BAAFS has set up 2 National Key Laboratories, 7 National Engineering Centers (Laboratories), 13 Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), 5 Engineering Research Centers of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA), 18 Beijing Key Laboratories (Engineering Centers), 4 National Testing Institutions of MARA, and 4 National Germplasm Resources Conservation Institutions. It also has a laboratory with International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) and a Post-doctoral Workstation with Independent Recruitment Qualifications. BAAFS has launched science and technology project cooperation with more than 30 countries, including France, Canada, Italy, and Spain, establishing 11 international joint laboratories and 2 national international cooperation bases.
